Department of Industrial Art Field Trip – Day One

Department of Industrial Art Embarks on Educational Field Trip – Day One Highlights

As part of our commitment to experiential learning, the Department of Industrial Art organized a field trip to expose students to practical aspects of their discipline. On Day One, students and staff visited two significant locations that enriched their understanding of traditional and contemporary art practices.

The journey began with a visit to Dangi Pottery Centre in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region. Here, students observed firsthand the intricate process of traditional pottery making, from clay sourcing to shaping, drying, and firing. The experience provided a valuable opportunity to appreciate indigenous ceramic techniques, sustainability in craft production, and the cultural significance of pottery in northern Ghana.

The team then travelled to Paga in the Upper East Region, where they explored the iconic Paga Crocodile Pond and engaged with the local community to learn about the interplay between art, culture, and tourism. The visit emphasized how traditional beliefs and artistic heritage can serve as tools for both cultural preservation and economic empowerment.

These visits offered rich insights that bridge lecture room theory with real-world practice and have inspired students to reflect on how indigenous knowledge and artistic expression can be integrated into modern design thinking.
