AGRECOFARM

Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) is in collaboration with five other West African universities and four EU partners on the AGRoECOlogical FARMing Master programme (AGRECOFARM), funded by the EU Erasmus+ Programme. This groundbreaking project is set to advance skills in agroecological techniques for sustainable agriculture, empowering academic staff, students, and agricultural extension workers across Africa.

An effective implementation of the project in partner institutions is a deliberate effort to:

  1. Support the joint efforts of EU and Africa to tackle climate change effects (biodiversity loss, natural habitats alteration, landscape degradation), to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  2.  Support the objectives of Paris Agreement on climate change, ensuring food/nutrition security and decent livelihoods.
  3. Identify optimal combinations of agroecological practices and adaptation of different farming systems in different agroecological zones in Africa, while ensuring the financial viability of businesses.
  4. Increased end-user adoption and implementation of agroecological practices by farmers supporting rural communities, ensuring farm resilience and viability at individual and system levels.
  5. Strengthened transdisciplinary research and integrated scientific support for relevant EU policies and priorities (EU strategy for Africa, Green Deal objectives, etc.).
  6. Provide appropriate learning environment for students enrolled in the MSc programme to learn how to understand and analyze a complex system, which builds on several disciplines to ensure collaboration between science and society.

The AGRECOFARM project also offers Vocational and Education Training (VET) courses to increase knowledge and hands-on experience. We are committed to creating a lasting impact on West Africa’s agricultural landscape!
