Entry requirements for admission
a. Direct
i. SSSCE APPLICANTS
Passes (A-D) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects; English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus two (2) electives subjects of the following: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Wood work and Engineering Science.
ii. WASSCE APPLICANTS
Credit Passes (A1-C6) in five (5) subjects comprising three core subjects; English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus two (2) electives subjects of the following: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Wood work and Engineering Science.
a. TECHNICIAN APPLICANTS
i. Construction Technician Certificate I and II (CTC I & II): with CTC I, applicants must have passes in all four papers (Construction General, Construction Practice, Related Studies, Practical Work Assessment), in addition, applicant must have passed in English Language and Mathematics. With CTC II, applicant must have passes in five papers (Construction Practice I, Applied Technology and Site Experience I, Site Surveying I, Measurement of Building Works I) with at least credits in two (2) subjects. Applicants must have passes in English and Mathematics from NAPTEX or any other recognized examination body.
b. MATURE APPLICANTS
i. Candidates must be at least twenty-five (25) years old with relevant experience,
ii. Five (5) GCE “O” level passes in English, Mathematics and Physics or SSSCE passes in Core English, Elective Mathematics and Elective Physics plus at least two (2) years relevant experience.
iii. Part I Technician Certificate with at least five (5) years Industrial experience
iv. Should pass a written Examination/Interview
v. Photocopies of Birth certificate and evidence of Industrial experience with a Civil Engineering related firm.
Entry Requirements for Admission
a) SSCE and WASSCE
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
The general requirements for admission of WASSCE, SSSCE and GBCE candidates to read HND Mechanical Engineering are three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects.
b) SSSCE Candidates
Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, plus credit passes (A-D) in three (3) of the following elective subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing and Chemistry.
c) WASSCE Candidates
Credit Passes (A1-D7) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science, plus Credit Passes (A1-D7) in three (3) of the following elective subjects: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing and Chemistry.
d) General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates
Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.
e) Mature Students’ Entry
i. Mature applicants shall not exceed 5% of the total admissions in a given academic year.
ii. The applicant must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of
application.
iii. Applicant must pass Mature Students' Entrance Examinations conducted by the Institution
(English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test).
f) Foreign Students’ Qualifications
All foreign qualification will be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission into the programme in line with (GTEC Act, 2007 [Act 774 (2(2b)].
g) Technical School Applicants
Credit Passes in English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, plus Credit Passes in three of the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice, Industrial Mechanics, Welding, Auto Mechanics, Technical Drawing, Refrigeration and Agricultural Engineering.
Entry requirements for admission of students:
To be eligible for admission to the programme, candidates are required to have one of the following qualifications:
DIRECT ENTRY:
SSSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects(Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Woodwork, Engineering Science)
WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Woodwork, Engineering
Science) iii. TVET Candidates: Passes in three (3) subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus intermediate technical education certificate core subjects: Building Construction, Woodwork, Plumbing, Technical Drawing, Engineering, Carpentry and Joinery.
Ordinary Diploma (OTD): Passes in all subjects.
CTCII (new); CTC I(old): Passes in all subjects in each case.
Advanced Craft (B&C, C&J, FC, P7D, Plumbing).
- GCE A/O Level: Five credits (grade 6 or better) in GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and an arts subject, plus two (2)credit in
A levels (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography, Economics)
MATURE ADMISSION:
Applicants must be at least 25 years old. The applicant must pass entrance examination and interview conducted by the University.
Entry requirements for admission of students
Examination (SSSCE) candidates (SSSCE), West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates and Technical/Vocational Education and Training Certificate Examination (TVET) candidates who meet the Ghana Council for Tertiary Education (GTEC) approved minimum requirements for admission to first degree programmes. The general requirements for admission of SSCE, WASSCE and TVET candidates will be three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects.
SSSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects – Economics, Geography, History, Government, Elective Mathematics. An applicant must have at least Economics or Geography as an elective.
WASSCE Candidates: Credit passes (A1 – C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects – Economics, Geography, History, Government, Elective Mathematics. An applicant must have at least Economics or Geography as an elective.
- TVET Candidates: Credit passes (Credit – Distinction) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English language and mathematics – Certificate II
Core Subjects, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects – TEU iv. For General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Certificate candidates: They will also require passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English language, mathematics and an arts subject.
For mature candidates, the applicant must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least five years older at the time of application. The applicant must pass Mature
Students’ Entrance Examination conducted by the University in English language, mathematics and aptitude test.
Foreign qualifications:
All foreign qualification will be referred to the National Accreditation Board (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission into the programme in line with (GTEC Act, 2007 [Act 774 (2(2b)]
- Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates to First Degree Programmes:
Applicants with HND certificate HND will enter at level 300. HND Students under mentorship will follow their Mentor Institutions’ practice with regard to entry levels for HND applicants.
- Professional and other entry Qualifications:
All professional certificates and any other qualifications beyond the ones specified above will be referred to GTEC for the establishment of their equivalencies and to determine their eligibility for admission onto the programme.
Entry requirements for admission of students:
WASSCE applicants:
Candidates must have passes (A-D7) in three (3) WASSCE core subjects namely English, mathematics, and integrated science or social studies plus credit passes in any three (3) elective subjects.
SSSCE Applicant:
Applicants must have credit passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects, namely English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies plus credit passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subjects.
NABPTEX AND TECHNICAL EXAMINATION UNIT
Computer Hardware Technology Applicants:
Applicants must have credit passes in three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies plus credit passes in three (3) elective subjects.
Business Information Technology Applicants:
Applicants must have credit passes in three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies plus credit passes in three (3) elective subjects.
General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Applicants:
Applicants must have credit passes (A-D) in Six (6) subjects comprising three (3) Core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science/Social Studies, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
GCE ‘O’ Level / ‘A’ Level Applicants
Applicants must have six (6) GCE ‘O’ Level credits; English Language, Mathematics, General Science, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects. In addition, applicants must have
GCE ‘A’ level at least three (3) passes.
Higher National Diploma in IT/ICT Applicants
Holders of IT/ICT HND may apply. The applicant must pass an interview/entrance examination as applicable.
Diploma in Business Studies Applicants (DBS)
Five (5) GCE ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics and passes in five (5) DBS subjects including credit in any three (3) subjects at one sitting.
Matured Applicants:
Applicants must be at least 25 years old. The applicant must have the requisite working experience of at least three (3) years and must pass a written selection examination with or without an interview.
Foreign Students:
Foreign students with equivalent qualification as SSSCE, WASSCE, or GCE ‘A’ Level may apply for admission. Foreign certificates must receive authentication and equivalencies from Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Such students must have their school certificates translated into English Language if they are not written in English.
Admission Requirements:
a. Direct Entry:
Credits in three core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus three credit passes in two (2) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six subjects (i.e. three (3) core and three (3) electives) should not exceed aggregate thirty-nine (39) for WASSCE and aggregate twenty-four (24) for SSSCE.
SSSCE Holders: Applicants Must have credits (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects (English Language Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus credit passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subject. The aggregate of the six (6) subjects should not be more than twenty four (24)
WASSCE Holders: Applicants Must have credits (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus credit passes (A1-C6) in three (3) relevant elective subject. The aggregate of the six (6) subjects should not be more than thirty-nine (39).
GBCE Holders: Applicants Must have credits (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus credit passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subject. The aggregate of the six (6) subjects should not be more than twenty-four (24). Candidates with a combination of the two grading systems will be treated on a case-by-case basis.
RSA Stage II/GBCE Holders: RSA Stage III/GBCE holders Must have four (4) passes in at least two (2) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D or better). In addition, the applicants Must have had credit passes in four (4) subjects including English Language and Mathematics in the RSA II/GBCE (Old programme).
Stenographer Grade: Stenographer holders Must have three (3) passes including English language. In addition, applicants must have passes in two (2) subjects (English and mathematics) and two (2) elective subjects in WASSCE/SSSCE or GCE „O‟ Level passes in four (4) subjects including English Language.
DBS Holders: DBS Applicants Must hold at least four (4) DBS passes for Secretaryship and Management Studies Option, Marketing Option, Management Option, Purchasing and Supply Option OR three (3) DBS passes for Accountancy Option. In addition, the applicants Must have four (4) passes in two (2) subjects (English and mathematics) and two (2) elective subjects in WASSCE/SSSCE passes (A1-D7)/(A-D).
Mature Applicants:
Must be at least 25 years old and pass a written examination and pass an oral interview.
Teachers‟ Certificate „A‟ or 3 year Post Secondary, Must have two years teaching experience.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
a. West African Secondary School Examination Certificate (WASSCE)/Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) with at least three (3) core including Mathematics and English and three (3) Elective passes with aggregate not more than twenty four (24).
b. GCE ‘A’ level with at least three (3) passes excluding general paper.
MATURE STUDENTS
The requirements for matured students are as follows:
a. At least 25 years of age
b. Have five (5) GCE ‘O’ level passes with credit in English and Mathematics, WASSCE/SSSCE with passes in English and Mathematics with three (3) others c. Must have passed a special paper set by the PSD.
d. Have some purchasing related experience
DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES APPLICANTS (DBS)
Five (5) GCE ‘O’ level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics and passes in five (5) DBS subjects including credit in any three (3) subjects at one sitting.
GENERAL BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (GBCE)
a. Five (5) GCE credit passes in GBCE or GCE ‘O’ level including English and Mathematics.
b. Three (3) passes in Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)
