2.  DEGREE PROGRAMMES

B-TECH HOSPITALITY AND CATERING MANAGEMENT

B-TECH HOSPITALITY AND CATERING MANAGEMENT

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum entry requirement for admission of student:

  1. The target market for enrolment of students into the Bachelor of Technology Degree in the Hospitality and Catering Management programme will include Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) candidates, West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) candidates.

The general requirement for admission of WASSCE, SSCE and GBCE candidates to first degree programmes are three (3) credit passes in three core subjects and three (3) credit passes in three relevant elective subjects.

  1. SSSCE Candidates: must have credit passes (A – D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus (3) elective subjects in any of the listed subjects; Economics, French, Food and Nutrition, General Knowledge in Art, Management in Living, Biology, Chemistry and any other relevant subjects.
  2. WASSCE Candidates: must have credit passes (A1 – D7) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus any three (3) of the following optional subjects: Economics, French, Food and Nutrition, General Knowledge in Art, Management in Living, Biology, Chemistry and any other relevant subjects.
  • GBCE Candidates: must have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus any three (3) of the following optional subjects: Economics, French, Food and Nutrition, General Knowledge in Art, Management in Living, Biology, Chemistry and any other relevant subjects.
    1. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates:

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also the applicants must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Science subject and five subjects (for non-science students) and an Art subject (for Science students).

 

  1. Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates to First Degree Programmes

Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e. at least 2nd Class Lower Division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience. Institutions under mentorship will follow their Mentor Institution’ practice with regard to entry levels for HND applicant. Applicants with HND certificates will enter the B-Tech programme at level 300.

Other Diploma qualification from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.

  1. Advance Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Candidates

Full Diploma Certificate in ABCE. Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) or West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE). ABCE candidates may be considered for admission at level 200 of a degree programme.

  1. Mature Students’ Entry

Mature students entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities for people who could not do so earlier in their lives to further their education at the tertiary level after some years in the workplace. Such applicants should normally not exceed 5% (for Public Tertiary Educational Institutions) and 20% for Private Tertiary Educational Institutions) of the total admissions of an institution in a given academic year.

  1. The applicant must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 25 years old at the time of application;
  2. The mature student must write an entrance examination conducted by the institution, the examination will be moderated and the marked scripts, vetted by the institution. In lieu of such examinations, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English language and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognised standard High School level examinations (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s aegis)

 

  1. Foreign Qualification

All foreign qualifications shall be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institution in Ghana (National Accreditation Board Act 2007 [Act 744(2(2b)]).

B-TECH PROCUREMENT, LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

B.TECH. PROCUREMENT, LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

REQUIREMENTS

A) DIRECT ENTRY APPLICANTS

i)   Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) Candidates

Applicants with SSCE must have Passes (A–D) in three (3) core subjects including, English Language, Mathematics (core), Integrated Science plus three (3) passes in any Elective subjects with an aggregate not exceeding 24.

ii)   West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Candidates

Applicants with WASSCE must have Credit Passes (A1–C6) in three (3) core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) passes in any elective subjects with aggregate not exceeding 36.

iii) General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Applicants with GCE A- level must have passes in three subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students). Applicants with Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) must have passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics.

iv) Applicants from Technical Institutes

Applicants from Technical Institutes must have three (3) passes in the core subjects including Mathematics and English Language plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

v) Higher National Diploma (HND) Candidates (Top-up Applicants)

Category 1: A minimum of Second Class Lower of the Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate in Purchasing and Supply is required to enrol on this programme. Such a candidate will be offered admission into the third year.

Category 2: Candidates who apply with a pass at the Higher National Diploma Purchasing and Supply may be offered admission into the second year.

Category 3Candidates with other tertiary Diploma programmes other than HND purchasing and Supply will be offered admission into the second year (Level 200).

B) MATURE ENTRY APPLICANTS

i    Be at least 25 years old at the time of applying.
ii.  Show proof of age with a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of  birth.

iii.  Must have at least, passes in three (3) subjects, including English and Mathematics

iv.  Pass Mature Entrance Examinations and interview conducted by the University.

C) FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS

All foreign qualification will be referred to the Ghana Technical Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission into the programme in line with (GTEC Act, 2007 [Act 774 (2(2b)]

D) PROFESSIONAL AND OTHER ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

All professional certificates and any other qualifications beyond the ones specified above will be referred to GTEC for the establishment of their equivalencies and to determine their eligibility for admission onto the programme.

B-TECH AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING

  1. B. TECH AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING

REQUIREMENTS

  1. A) DIRECT ENTRY APPLICANTS

i) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) Candidates

Applicants with SSCE must have Passes (A–D) in three (3) core subjects including, English Language, Mathematics (core), Integrated Science plus three (3) passes in relevant elective subjects with an aggregate not exceeding 24.

ii) West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Candidates

Applicants with WASSCE must have Credit Passes (A1–C6) in three (3) core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) relevant elective subjects with an aggregate not exceeding 36.

Applicants without Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science may be admitted to an intensive two (2) month bridging (pre-degree) program before formal admission to their program of choice after passing a selection examination.

v) Higher National Diploma (HND)

Applicants with Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates will enter at level 300. HND Students under mentorship will follow their ‘Mentor Institutions’ practice regarding entry levels for HND applicants.

B) MATURE ENTRY APPLICANTS

  • Be at least 25 years of old, Show proof of age with a Ghana card, birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth.
  • Pass Mature Entrance Examination and interview conducted by the University.
  • In line with the above, the applicant must have credit passes in English and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examination (for qualifications from countries outside WAEC’s jurisdiction).

C) FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS

B. TECH MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

REQUIREMENTS

A) DIRECT ENTRY APPLICANTS

i) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE)

Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three (3) elective subjects including Elective Mathematics, Physics and any of the following: Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Metal Work and Engineering Science.

 ii) West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE

Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three (3) elective subjects including Elective Mathematics, Physics and any of the following: Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Metal Work and Engineering Scienc

Iii) General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.

iv) Technician Certificate

  • Passes in Technician Parts I and II in Mechanical, Automotive, Production and Refrigeration Engineering plus passes in English, Mathematics and Science will enroll at level 200.
  •  Passes in Technician Part III in Mechanical, Automotive, Production and Refrigeration Engineering with a minimum of 2 years working experience will enroll in Semester II level 200. Candidates will have to go through a bridging programme of 3 months and pass an exam to qualify. 
  •  A minimum of 3 credit passes in Intermediate Certificate II in Mechanical, Automotive, Production and Refrigeration Engineering, plus credit passes in English, Mathematics and Integrated Science will enroll at level 100.

 v) Higher National Diploma (HND)

  • Holders in HND Certificates (minimum of 2nd Class Lower) in Mechanical, Automotive, Production and Refrigeration Technology Engineering will enroll at Level 300. 
  • Holders of other qualifications in Mechanical, Automotive, Production and Refrigeration Technology Engineering that have been assessed to be equivalent to HND will be similar to (a) and will be considered. 

 B) MATURE ENTRY APPLICANTS

  • The applicant must be at least 25 years old, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.
  • Applicant must pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by the University (English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test).

 

C) FOREIGN QUALIFICATIONS

All international qualifications will be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission into the programme in line with (GTEC Act, 2007 [Act 774 (2(2b)].

3.  HND PROGRAMMES

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR HND PROGRAMMES

A. DIRECT ENTRY

SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS: Passes in three core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus credit passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects.

For SSSCE Candidates: Passes (A—D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English and Mathematics, and three (3) relevant elective subjects.

For WASSCE Candidates: Passes (A1—D7) in three (3) core subjects, including English and Mathematics, and Credit passes (A1-C6) in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six subjects (i.e. three (3) core and three (3) electives) should not exceed aggregate thirty-nine (39) for WASSCE and aggregate 24 for SSSCE.

Candidates with a combination of the two grading systems will be treated on a case-by-case basis.

RSA Stage III/ ABCE Holders: Passes in two (2) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be a Grade D or better). Also the applicant must have had credit passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the GBCE (old programme).

GBCE HOLDERS (New programme): Applicants must have passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies ) plus passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six subjects should not be more than twenty-four (24). DBS Holders: DBS Holders’ applicants must hold at least five (5) DBS passes for Secretarial Option, or four (4) DBS passes for Accounting Option. Applicants must also hold four (4) WASSCE passes (A1-D7) or four (4) SSSCE passes (A-D) including English Language and Mathematics.

B. MATURE ENTRY:

i. Applicants must be at least 25 years old and have three (3) years professional practice in the relevant study area.

ii. Applicants must pass an Entrance Examinations to be conducted by the University in English Language and Mathematics. iii. In lieu of such examinations, the applicants should have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognised standard High School level examinations.

NOTE:

IN ALL CASES, APPLICANTS MUST ALSO SATISFY DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS. APPLICANTS SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THEIR RESULTS FOR VERIFICATION WITH THE RELEVANT EXAMINATION BODY

HND IN AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE with Passes (A-D) or WASSCE with passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus three (3) Passes (A-D)/(A1-C6) in relevant elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Elective Mathematics, Forestry, Horticulture, Crop Husbandry, General Agriculture, Technical Drawing, Metalwork, Farm Mechanization, Home Science. Science and Calculations).

ii. Intermediate Certificate with at least passes in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects (Agricultural Machinery and Workshop processes, Agricultural Tractor Systems, Crop and Animal Husbandry, Coursework Assessment/Practicals).

iii. Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD)

iv. Agricultural Technician II or III (AET II or III)

v. Certificate from Agricultural Colleges with passes (A-D)/(A1-D7) in SSSCE/ WASSCE English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science.

vi. Diploma from Agricultural Colleges vii. General Certificate of Education with at least two ‘A’ Level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry, with ‘O’ Level credit passes in Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing or Metalwork. English Language, and Modern Mathematics.

B. MATURE ENTRY:

Applicants must be at least twenty five (25) years old at the time of submitting the application (show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate document) and must have at least three (3) years relevant industrial experience plus one (1) of the following:

i. WASSCE/SSSCE passes (A1-D7)/(A-D) in three (3) Core Subjects ( English Language , Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus passes in any three (3) elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Elective Mathematics, Horticulture, General Agriculture, Agriculture Economics, Animal Husbandry).

ii. General Certificate of Education with at least two GCE ‘A’ level passes in Agricultural Science, Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry, with ‘O’ Level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.

iii. Five (5) GCE “O” level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Agricultural Science, and Chemistry

HND IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

A. DIRECT ENTRY;

i. SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS: SSSCE with Passes (A-D) or WASSCE with passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science). In addition, applicants must have credit passes (A-D)/(A1-C6) in any three (3) of the following: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Metalwork, and Technical Drawing.

ii. TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE HOLDERS: Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

       i. Mechanical Engineering Technician I Certificate plus passes in English Language and Mathematics. ii. Mechanical Engineering Technician II and III.  iii. Ordinary Technician Diploma iv. Intermediate Certificate with passes in three (3) core subjects (English    Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus passes in three (3) relevant elective subjects.

v. Certificate II (Technical Institute Certificate) with at least five (5) passes including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science. Passes in three (3) core subjects and three (3) relevant electives.

B. MATURE ENTRY:

Applicants must be at least twenty-five (25) years old with relevant industrial experience. In addition applicants must have one (1) of the following qualifications:

i. GCE “O” Level credit passes in English Language , Mathematics or SSSCE credit passes in core English Language, Mathematics plus proof of at least three (3) years relevant experience.

ii. Mechanical Engineering Technician Part I Certificate with at least three (3) years industrial experience.

iii. General Certificate of Education with at least one ‘A’ Level pass in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, with ‘O’ level passes in Science, Technical Drawing or Metalwork. In all cases applicants must pass a written examination/interview and submit photocopies of birth certificate.

HND IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

 A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS SSSCE with Passes (A-D) or WASSCE with passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science). In addition, applicants must have credit passes (A-D)/ (A1-C6) in any three (3) of the following: Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Woodwork and Engineering Science.

ii. General Construction Course (GCC)

iii. Construction Technician Certificate (CTC I , II, III); With CTC I, applicants must have passes in all four (4) papers. In addition, applicants must have passes in English Language and Mathematics. With CTC II, applicants must have passes in all four (4) papers with credits in at least two (2) papers.

iv. Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD). v. Advanced Craft Certificate (B & C) , C & J, FC, P & D, and Plumbing): In addition, applicants must have passes in three (3) core subjects at the SHS Level (including English Language and Mathematics).

B. MATURE ENTRY:

Applicants must be at least twenty five (25) years old at the time of submitting the application (show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate document) and must have at least three (3) years relevant industrial experience plus one (1) of the following:

i. Five (5) GCE “O” level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and Physics or SSSCE passes including Core English Language, Elective Mathematics and Elective Physics .

ii. Construction Technician Certificate Part I . iii. Construction Technician Certificate Part II (CTC II)

iv. Construction Technician Certificate Part III (CTC III)

v. General Certificate of Education with at least two GCE ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry, with ‘O’ Level passes in Science, Technical Drawing or Metalwork.

In all cases applicants must pass written examinations/interviews, submit photocopies of birth certificates and show evidence of industrial experience with a Civil Engineering related firm.

HND IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS: SSSCE holders with Passes (A-D) or WASSCE holders with Passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects comprising English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus Passes (A-D) for SSSCE holders or (A1-C6) for WASSCE holders in any three (3) elective subjects preferably under any of the following areas:

General Arts, Business, Science or Technical ( Electrical /Electronics) courses.

ii. GCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have passes in two (2) ‘A’ Level subjects (at least one of the passes should be grade D or better). Also the applicant must have five credit passes in GCE”O” Level including English Language and Mathematics and a Science subject (for non Science graduate) and an Arts subject ( for Science graduate).

B. MATURED ENTRY:

The applicant must:

i. Be at least 25 years of age. ii. Have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any recognised examination.

iii. In the absence of any of B. (ii) above, applicants should pass written selection examinations in the area she or he is deficient (i.e. Mathematics or English Language or both) to be conducted by the polytechnic.

iv. Have the requisite working experience of at least three (3) years.

v. All applicants should pass a selection interview.

vi. Submit photocopy of birth certificate, relevant document and show evidence of industrial experience.

HND IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE/WASSCE Holders: Applicants must have at least ( A-D/A1-D7) in three (3) Core Subjects at SHS Level (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus at least credit passes (A-D)/(A1-C6) in three (3) elective subjects in any of the following areas or its combination: General Arts, Science or Technical subjects.

ii. Construction Technician Certificate (CTC): Final CTC II (Old Scheme) or Final CTCIII (New Scheme).

iii. CTC I , II; With CTC I, applicants must have passes in all four (4) papers. In addition, applicants must have passes in English Language and Mathematics. With CTC II, applicants must have passes in all four (4) papers with credits in at least two (2) papers.

iv. Advanced Craft Certificate (B&C, C&J, FC, P&D, and Plumbing): In addition, applicants must have passes in three (3) Core Subjects at SHS Level (English Language and Mathematics and Integrated Science).

B. MATURE ENTRY:

Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of submitting the application (show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth) and must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience.

Applicants must also have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any recognised examination. In the absence of having credit passes in either English Language or Mathematics or both, applicants should pass written selection examinations in the area she or he is deficient (i.e. Mathematics or English Language or both) to be conducted by the Polytechnic Applicant must pass an interview to be conducted by the Polytechnic. In addition, applicant must have one of the following:

i. Building Construction Related Courses Certificate (CTC I, II); with CTC I, applicants must have passes in all four (4) papers and passes in English Language and Mathematics. With CTC II, applicants must have passes in at least three (3) papers.

ii. At least five (5) credits at GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (Physics, Chemistry or General Science).

iii. WASSCE/SSSCE passes in three (3) Core Subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) plus passes (A1-E8)/(A-E) in any three (3) elective subjects in any of the following areas or its combinations: General Arts, Business, Science, or Technical subjects.

HND IN ESTATE MANAGEMENT

DIRECT ENTRY:

SSSCE/WASSCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have passes (A-D)/A1-D7) in three (3) Core Subjects at SHS Level (including English Language and Mathematics) plus credit passes (A-D)/(A1-C6) in three (3) elective subjects in any of the following Electives: General Arts (Geography, Economics, Elective Mathematics, Government, History Options), Sciences.

MATURE ENTRY:

Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of submitting the application (show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth) and must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience. Applicants must also have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any recognised examination. In the absence of credit passes in either English Language or Mathematics or both, applicants should pass written selection examinations in the area she or he is deficient (i.e. Mathematics or English Language or both) to be conducted by the University. Applicant must pass an interview to be conducted by the University. In addition, applicant must have one of the following:

i.  Building Construction related courses (Certificate in Valuation Practice and Certificate in Surveying Practice).

ii.  At least five (5) credits at GCE ‘O’-Level including English Language, Mathematics and related subjects   (Economics, Geography, History).

iii. WASSCE/SSCE passes in three (3) Core Subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) plus passes (A1-E8)/(A-E) in any three (3) of the following Electives: General Arts,( Geography, Economics, Elective Mathematics, Government, History), Science.

HND IN DISPENSING TECHNOLOGY

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have six (6) passes (A-D) comprising three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science) plus three (3) relevant Elective subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics).

ii. WASSCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have Passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects comprising English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus Credit Passes (A1-C6) in three (3) relevant Elective subjects (Chemistry, Biology/General Agriculture, Physics and Elective Mathematics).

iii. GCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have five (5) credits in GCE ‘O’ Level including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics plus two (2) GCE ‘A’ level passes in the Sciences, including Chemistry.

iv. CERTIFICATE HOLDERS: Applicants must have obtained a minimum of an overall credit in the Dispensing Technician Part III examination with at least a Credit in Chemistry.

B. MATURE ENTRY: Applicants must be at least 25 years old and must have at least GCE ‘O’ Level / SSSCE / WASSCE passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, Chemistry plus any one (1) of the following subjects:

Biology, Physics or Elective Mathematics. Working experience of at least three (3) years in a hospital/pharmacy/ industry/ laboratory or similar setting is required.

HND IN INDUSTRIAL ART

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. WASSSCE/SSSCE HOLDERS:

Applicant must have passes (A1-D7))/(A-D) in three (3) core subjects, namely English Language, Mathematics and one of the following: Social Studies or Integrated Science plus ANY THREE (3) credit passes (A1-C6)/(A-D) in the following elective subjects:

General Knowledge in Art, Ceramics, Woodwork, Sculpture, Textiles, Graphic Design, Jewellery, Basketry, Picture Making, Leather Work and Bead Making.

ii. GCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have passes in two (2) ‘A’ Level subjects (at least, one (1 ) of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicants must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for Science students).

iii. TECHNICIANS CERTIFICATE HOLDERS: Applicant must have Advance Craft or Intermediate Certificate ( in Carpentry & joinery, Painting & Decorating, Fashion & Designing or Welding & Fabrication) with core subjects including; English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies. NOTE: Technical, Vocational graduates or Intermediate Certificate holders without these core subjects could apply for the one (1) year Access course and pass the examinations in the core subjects conducted by NABPTEX before applying for the HND programme.

B. MATURE ENTRY:

i. Applicant must be at least 25 years of age, and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 25 years old at the time of submitting application form.

ii. Working experience of at least three (3) years in a Studio/Workshop/ Industry/ Laboratory or similar setting is required.

iii. Applicants must pass a written selection examination / interview.

HND IN SECRETARYSHIP AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have credits (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies ) plus credit passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subjects.

The aggregate of the six (6) subjects should not be more than twenty four (24).

ii. WASSCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have Passes (A1– D7) in three core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus at least credit passes (A1-C6) in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six (6) subjects should not be more than thirty -nine (39).

iii. GBCE HOLDERS: Applicants must have credit passes (A-D) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies ) plus at least credit passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant elective subjects. The aggregate of the six subjects should not be more than twenty four(24).

iv. RSA Stage III/ABCE Holders: RSA Stage III/ABCE holders must have passes in at least two (2) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D or better). In addition, the applicants must have had credit passes in four (4) subjects including English Language and Mathematics in the RSA II/GBCE (old programme)

v. Stenographer Grade: Stenographer holders must have three (3) passes including English language and Mathematics. vi. DBS Certificate Holders: DBS Applicants must hold at least four (4) DBS passes for Secretaryship Option, OR three (3) DBS passes for accountancy Option, Management option, Purchasing and Supply option or Marketing option. In addition, the applicant must have four (4) WASSCE/ SSSCE Passes (A1-D7)/(A-D) including Mathematics and English Language.

B. MATURE ENTRY:

Must be at least 25 years old and have two (2) years professional practice in the relevant study area AND must pass a Mature Students Entrance examination (English Language, Mathematics and a selection interview

HND IN ACCOUNTANCY STUDIES

A. DIRECT ENTRY:

i. SSSCE APPLICANTS: Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies) plus three (3) elective subjects. The aggregate of the six (6) subjects should not exceed twenty-four (24)

ii. WASSCE Applicants: Passes (A1-D7) in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies), plus three (3) elective subjects.

iii. GBCE HOLDERS (New programme): Credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social studies) plus three (3) elective subjects. Applicants with a combination of different grading systems will be treated on a case by case basis.

iv. GCE HOLDERS: At least two (2) passes in GCE “A” Level plus at least five (5) credit passes in GCE “O” Level including Mathematics and English Language.

v. RSA Stage III/ABCE Holders: RSA Stage III/ABCE holders must have passes in at least two (2) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D or better). In addition, the applicants must have had credit passes in four (4) subjects including English Language and Mathematics in the RSA II/GBCE (old programme)

vi. DBS Certificate Holders: DBS Applicants must hold at least four (4) DBS passes Accounting option. In addition, the applicant must have four (4) WASSCE/ SSSCE Passes (A1-D7) including Mathematics and English Language.

B. MATURE ENTRY:

Applicants must be at least twenty five (25) years old and have three (3) years professional practice in relevant study area. Applicants in this category are expected to pass an Entrance Examination and/ a selection Interview. In addition, applicants should have one of the following:

i. At least five (5) passes in SSSCE/WASSCE including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science /Social Studies.

ii. At least five (5) GCE “O” Level credit passes including English Language, Mathematics and Science.

iii. Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ (4-year or 3 – year post Secondary) Plus a minimum of three years teaching experience.

iv. At least three (3) passes in DBS Accounting Option plus credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.

4.  DBS PROGRAMMES

DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS STUDIES (DBS)

Applicants must possess SSSCE/WASSCE passes in five (5) subjects including Mathematics and English Language. (N.B. Passes in WASSCE and SSSCE range from A1-E8 and A-E respectively).

OR

Applicants must possess passes in NVTI, NACVET or their equivalence PRE-HND (ACCESS) Access is a one-year full-time intensive non-residential Programme. The Access Programme is designed to provide opportunity to the under-mentioned categories of graduates to pursue Higher National Diploma (HND) in Applied Science and Engineering Programmes. The subjects of study during the period of the programme are Core Mathematics, English Language and Science.

VOCATIONAL/ TECHNICAL GRADUATES:

i. Holders of NVTI Certificates.

ii. Holders of Intermediate or Craft Certificates.

iii. Holders of Certificate II with problems with core Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science. The National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) will conduct the end of year Examinations. Successful applicants shall proceed to enrol in the Higher National Diploma Programmes of their choice.

Please note that the Access Programme is not limited to Programmes offered at the University. It is a Nationwide Programme, hence, applicants who may wish to prepare for Programmes offered in other Universities in Ghana are welcome.
