Mission

1. To create a new generation of beauty professionals by enrolling qualified students, infusing quality and competency based teaching and learning, and to inculcate the spirit of self-initiative and entrepreneurial drive, expand awareness, eradicate erroneous perception about the beauty industry and increasing the income generation capacity of practitioners
2. To transform the Ghanaian Beauty Therapy Industry by producing skillful and professionally trained productive graduates to fit into the global job market and enhance beauticians’ market value locally while promoting the socio economic transformation of Ghana.
Other considerations for establishing the programme include:
a. To become a pace setter in CBTH at the highest level of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Ghana
b. To provide quality education and training, promote quality services provision, innovation and creativity in CBTH technology and inculcate moral values to meet the challenges of a dynamic society.
c. To create middle level man power needs in CBTH entrepreneurs within the next five years for the Ghanaian community
d. To promote standards in the CBTH industry through health promotion, sanitation and quality regulatory frameworks in collaboration with appropriate state agencies in Ghana.

Overview

The Cosmetology programme was instituted to train professionals for the beauty therapy industry to meet the expanded beauty requirement of the country in a more professional fashion. The department intends to mount programmes in areas of aesthetics, trichology, cosmetology and beauty therapy both at the Higher National diploma and Degree levels to meet the need to create pathways for the academic progression of beauticians. It hopes to eventually establish itself as the number one training institution and a pace setter in the transformation of the industry taking into account professionalism, beauty enhancement and the health of practitioner and clients alike. The Department has ultra-modern laboratory that contains equipment with the potentials to train and offer services for clients and students in the areas of massage, manicure and pedicure, barbering, hairdressing facials and nails. The motivation behind establishing the programme was a drive to minimise health hazards associated with operations of the industry as it directly or indirectly affects humans. It is also motivated by the increasing desire of the University to avail the youth and practitioners of the trade, to provide both high/middle levels manpower training for job creation opportunities, and to build a backbone for a formal technical, vocational education and training not only at the lower levels of education but also at the higher level.
