Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University is a public tertiary education institution established by the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922), as amended. The University was converted from a Polytechnic (Wa Polytechnic) to a Technical University in April, 2020.
In line with the Act, Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University – Wa, provides tertiary education in the fields of Engineering, Manufacturing, Science and Technology, Technical/Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Applied Arts and Commerce. The University further provides opportunities for skills development, applied research and publication of research findings.
Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University is located in Wa, the capital of the Upper West Region of Ghana. The Vision of the University is to become “a centre of excellence in technical education, training and research”.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of VICE CHANCELLOR for the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Wa. (DHL-TU).The post of Vice-Chancellor of the University will become vacant on June 1, 2025.
THE POSITION EXPECTATIONS
The University seeks a visionary, innovative and inspirational Vice-Chancellor with a demonstrated track record of success in strategic planning and innovation. The Vice-Chancellor is the academic and administrative head of the University and is responsible to the Council for the effective management of the University. The Vice-Chancellor will be a champion for academic quality, and a strong advocate for diversity, equity, resourcefulness, and inclusion and must have the demonstrated ability to:
Lead the university forward by identifying opportunities, as well as developing and implementing a strategic vision that ensures implementation of the university’s mission.
Assure that the university’s finances are managed and revenue streams are developed and grown to support the achievement of the strategic vision of the university.
Promote and encourage the university’s role in economic development, research, and the development of global competence in students and the community.
Provide novel and creative approaches to problem-solving and decision-making.
THE PERSON:
The candidate seeking appointment as Vice-Chancellor must:
- Be of professorial status in a University or an analogous institution.
- Demonstrate successful leadership experience in higher education administration, and experience in leading and managing a large, complex organisation in a challenging financial environment.
- Possess a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service activities at a university or analogous institution.
- Be visionary, technology-oriented and be able to establish rapport between industry, the community and the University for the promotion of common purpose.
- Have proven leadership, management and communication skills in a senior management level.
- Have the capacity and network to raise funds and other resources for research and other developmental activities of the University.
- Be sober with maturity and drive for sound and impartial judgement.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
- The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed for a period of four (4) years. The appointment may be renewed, upon application for a further term of up to four (4) years only, if that is not beyond the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.
- Applicants should be able to complete one full term prior to attaining the statutory retirement age.
