VICE-CHANCELLOR OF DR HILLA LIMANN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY ENGAGES TEACHING STAFF TO SHARE HER VISION
WA, UW/R – 7 AUGUST 2025

In a bid to foster unity of purpose and strengthen academic collaboration, the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Ing. Professor Hamidatu Saaka Darimani, held a strategic engagement session with the University’s teaching staff. The meeting formed part of a broader leadership initiative aimed at aligning faculty efforts with the Vice-Chancellor’s vision for institutional transformation.

In her address, Professor Darimani outlined her vision for the next phase of the University’s development, with a strong focus on academic excellence, innovation, industry collaboration, and student-centred learning. She emphasised the core mandate of the teaching staff in achieving the University’s mission and identified three strategic areas:

  1. Quality Teaching and Learning – Enhancing curriculum relevance and adopting innovative teaching methodologies.
  2. Research and Innovation – Promoting faculty-led applied research that addresses real-world challenges, particularly within the local context.
  3. Staff Development and Welfare – Prioritising continuous professional development and advancing staff motivation and well-being.

The interactive session offered an open platform for lecturers to voice concerns, ask for clarification, and suggest constructive ideas on implementing the Vice-Chancellor’s vision. Topics discussed included insufficient furniture, a lack of teaching and learning materials and equipment, outdated library resources, a poor maintenance culture, and the need for weekend academic programmes. Concerns were also raised regarding excessive paper usage, challenges with invigilation, and examination malpractice, accompanied by discussions on appropriate sanctions for offenders. A lecturer from the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology proposed the use of technological tools to address these challenges.

In response, Professor Darimani expressed her appreciation for the candid feedback and assured staff of her commitment to inclusive leadership and sustained engagement. She reiterated that faculty concerns would be taken into account in decision-making processes moving forward.

In his closing remarks, the Registrar of the University commended the teaching staff for their dedication in nurturing future leaders. He encouraged faculty members to strengthen collaboration, especially in research, to enhance the University’s impact and visibility.

The session ended with a renewed sense of purpose and unity among the faculty, who pledged their support for the Vice-Chancellor’s transformative vision and committed to making meaningful contributions to the university’s progress.
