Vice Chancellor of Dr. Hilla LimannTechnical University, Prof. Elias N.K Sowley, Delivers Inaugural Lecture

The lecture was on the topic: “Pesticide Use in Agriculture: Benfits and Implications for the Environment and Human Health.”

The inaugural lecture was delivered on Monday, August 29, 2022, at University for Development Studies, Tamale.

Prof. Elias N.K Sowley became the 14th person to deliver such a lecture as required for full Professorship. Professor Sowley was promoted from an Associate Professor to a full professor in April, 2022.

The programme was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of UDS, Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye. Directors, Deans, Registrar, faculty, admistrative staff of UDS, Chiefs, friends of Professor Sowley and the Clergy attended the programme.

The programme was also attended by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Directors and Deans of the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University.

Professor Sowley was also supported by his wife and children.

Until his appointment as Vice Chancellor of DHLTU, in June, 2021, Professor Sowley was the Dean of Graduate School, University for Development Studies, Tamale.

Professor Sowley has been a member of several local and international Professorial Associations and Societies including the Ghana Science Association (GSA), Plant Protection Society, Ghana, International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS), UK, Canadian Phytopathological Society (CPS), American Phytopathological Society (APS) and British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP). He is a fellow of the Ghana Institute of Horticulturists (GhIH) and the Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance (CILG).

Professor Sowley has supervised over one hundred undergraduate and several graduate students. He has presented several papers at conferences and published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has also published a book and book chapters.
